Several billboards with slogans shocked residents of the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk after they were found on Thursday, according to the Krasnoyarsk news agency NGS24. A day earlier, Putin's ally and State Duma leader Vyacheslav Volodin suggested that Russia could "take back" Alaska in retaliation for economic sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.
Like a banner that appears after an official suggests an attack on America, it doesn't appear that the Russian government is in place. Krasnoyarsk restaurateur Vladimir Vladimirov told NGS24 that "there were several in different parts of the city" but he assumed the banners were ordered by "some patriots".
A spokesman for a Krasnoyarsk company called "Alaska", which reportedly produced the trailer, claimed responsibility for the billboard in comments to NGS24. The spokesperson explained that the company's directors were "very patriotic" and had "decided to show our patriotism" by placing banners around the city.

On Wednesday, Mr Volodin and other senior Russian officials warned that sanctions against Russia China by the United States and other Western countries in the war in Ukraine could lead to direct military action, including a possible invasion of Alaska.
"Let America always remember: there is only one land, Alaska," Volodin told a State Duma meeting, according to the Moscow Times. "When they try to manage our resources abroad, let them think before they act that we have something to take back."
