How To Join As An Officer

To join the Air Force Reserve, you must be between the ages of 17 (18 for GED holders) or over 39. You must begin basic military training before your 40th birthday. While there are sometimes exceptions for candidates with GEDs or other high school equivalents, high school diplomas are preferred. The ASVAB test is used to match recruits to jobs.

Similar to full-time Air Force recruits, reservists spend eight and a half weeks in basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. During this time, trainees develop discipline, confidence and skills.

Members of the Air Force Reserve develop valuable job skills and character traits that civilian employers find desirable. Career opportunities include aircraft maintenance, cyber operations, intelligence services and aerospace operations. Options are available in the full-time Air Force. Note that you can serve part-time through the Air National Guard.

Air Force Reserve Job

The Air Force Reserve offers many of the same benefits as the active Air Force, including the flexibility to train closer to home and maintain a civilian life until needed. Reservists are paid for all the time they spend on drilling and deployment, and they have access to the same professional training as full-time military personnel.
